Who you are dealing with
Hero Tales is a service of Ernys Sweets Holdings (Pty) Ltd, trading as HeroTales, registration 2023/198991/07, [Street address], KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, email hello@herotales.co.za. These details are provided in terms of section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
The service
You upload photos and details of a child, choose an adventure and illustration style, and we use artificial intelligence to write a story and paint illustrations featuring that child. You can preview the book, fix pages, and order it as a digital file or a printed book.
Your responsibilities
- You are the parent or legal guardian of the child, or have their express permission, and you give consent for the child's photos and details to be used to make the book.
- You only upload photos you have the right to use, and you do not upload photos of other people's children without their guardian's consent.
- You keep your sign-in email secure. Sign-in codes are personal.
- You check the preview and every page before paying and before approving a printed book.
AI-generated content
Illustrations are generated by AI from your photos and will resemble, but never perfectly match, your child. Stories are written by AI from our themes. You review every page and can fix any page before it prints. We do not guarantee a particular likeness, and we may decline to generate content that is unlawful, unsafe or against our providers' policies.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown in South African rand and exclude VAT, as we are not yet VAT registered. Payment is processed by Yoco; we never store card numbers. Coupon codes apply only as described when issued.
Delivery, cancellations and refunds

Ownership
Your photos stay yours. The finished book is for your personal, non-commercial use: read it, print it, share it with family. The story themes, software, illustration pipeline and the Hero Tales brand remain ours, and may not be used to build a competing service.
Privacy
How we handle personal information, including children's photos, is set out in our privacy policy.
Our liability
If something goes wrong with your order we will fix, reprint or refund it as set out in the refunds policy. Beyond that, to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the order. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
Accounts and misuse
We may suspend or close accounts used to upload unlawful material, abuse staff, or attempt to interfere with the service, and refund any undelivered paid orders.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. If we cannot resolve a complaint together, you may approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or the National Consumer Commission.
Changes
We may update these terms; the version shown at the time of your order applies to that order.
